Newport News Industrial Corporation (NNI) is part of Northrop Grumman Corporation and resides within its Shipbuilding sector (NGSB). Northrop Grumman is a $32 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide. An outgrowth of NGSB’s participation in the construction of Navy nuclear plant prototypes, NNI was incorporated in 1965 as the Nuclear Engineering and Construction Company. Its original mission was to support the design and construction of commercial nuclear power plants which expanded over time to include maintenance, repair and modification services. In 1973, the name was changed to Newport News Industrial Corporation to better reflect the company’s mission and its expansion into fossil power plants and other industrial facilities. Today, NNI provides a wide range of services and innovative products to the Energy and Petrochemical industries as well as government customers such as NASA, Department of Energy and Department of Defense. NNI works to some of the most stringent requirements in the world and maintains quality programs and certifications to support a variety of industries. It has certificates of authorization and/or accreditation from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board of Boiler Inspectors (NBBI). These certifications include U, NB, NPT, NA, NS, R, VR and NR. NNI is also qualified to perform work on critical submarine components that fall under the SUBSAFE program. NNI’s quality programs are compliant with industry standards ISO 9001, NQA-1, 10CFR50 appendix B, ANSI N45.2, and Mil-I-45208A.
