Mike Marlow is vice president and general manager of Newport News Industrial Corporation, a company within Northrop Grumman’s Shipbuilding sector. Named to this position in 2006, he is responsible for all operations of Newport News Industrial to include heavy fabrication, installation, maintenance, modification and repair services for commercial nuclear and fossil power generation plants, DOE facilities, naval ships and submarines, refineries and other industrial plants. Included in his responsibilities are the development of new business and supporting a wide range of shipyard tasks. A native of Mississippi, Marlow also lived in France, Louisiana, North Dakota and California in his youth. Marlow joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation and became a submariner. After completing nuclear propulsion training, he was assigned to the reactor controls department of the U.S.S Spadefish in Virginia. Marlow was then selected for service on Submarine NR-1, a small nuclear powered research submarine home ported in Connecticut, where he served as sonar officer. Upon completion of his military service, Marlow joined General Electric where he held positions of increasing responsibility in nuclear plant operator training, refueling and sales. He served as GE’s site manager at the Clinton nuclear power plant in Illinois where he was responsible for delivery of engineering and other products and services to support plant operations, maintenance and refueling. Marlow joined Westinghouse’s ITI Movats subsidiary in 1992 where he was responsible for integrating products and services from multiple business units to meet customer requirements at boiling water reactor plants. He was later promoted to general manager of business development and led all marketing and sales activities for ITI Movats. Marlow began his career at Northrop Grumman in 1996 as director of business development and has held positions in marketing and product development and field operations. Marlow earned a bachelor’s degree in nuclear technology from Excelsior College. He has held NRC senior operator licenses for operator instruction at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant and for refueling at the Limerick nuclear power station. |
